Artist statement
Our world can be a dark place, but there's humor, absurdity, and a story to be told.
Those moments are what I seek to capture, that's what fuels my drive to create art. In everything, I create whether painting, sculpture or digital art I strive to convey a sense of character and place that tells a narrative through my chosen medium. When painting I figuratively render the surreal and absurd while keeping my subject matter grounded enough to enhance the juxtaposition in between the world as I see it and what the viewer would normally expect to see in our everyday society. I tend to gravitate to portraiture, and even though my subjects are invented, I find that they each have their own story, a world to inhabit and in doing so hold up a minor to our own.
Nathaniel Oliveira Is a lifelong resident of the central valley California. He studied visual art at Merced Junior College where he focus in painting and sculpture, he now continues his love affair with art by painting in his small Hughson studio.
